Why!
Walked out of the mall
Approach an officer to ask him a question
Suddenly he knees me in the back and pins me on the ground
Tasing me
On the ground fighting for my life
Another comes
Now on top of me
Beating me
Fighting to get away
Fighting for my life
Officers yelling
Don’t resist!
I obey
What did I do wrong
I can’t move
HELP!!!!
Visions flash through my head
Horrible scenes
Black men being unnecessarily beaten
Tased
Fighting to get free
Let them go!
Visions continue
Flashing through my head
Policemen killing Black motorists
Visions end
I hear men yelling in the background
Dogs barking
Suddenly men on top of me
Beating me to the point I cannot move
A dog comes
Chasing after me
Biting me and scraping me unjustifiably
A week in jail
Now a trial to prove I’m not guilty
One chance and only ONE chance to prove myself
Flashbacks of that horrible moment…
Panic attacks come frequently now
Afraid to walk on the streets alone
Anxious that I might be assaulted
Why! Why! Why!
Is it because I’m Black?
