My take away from learning about the holocaust

My take away from learning about the holocaust

This was a very interesting topic to study despite how unbearable it was. In reading Night, there were many points where I had to stop myself because I felt it was too hard to go on reading and believing that this is a true story. Throughout the book and the movie Life is Beautiful it seems so unreal, more like a fictional story. The endings, as they were liberated, were both so beautiful although the journeys were horrific. I feel very different now about how much I take very day things for granted, when I say that I am hungry or tired. I have not lived through the most extreme hardship of those in the work camps and felt the true meaning of severe hunger. While learning about the Holocaust and the Armenian genocide, the feeling I had for humanity was indescribable. I didn't understand how anyone could be so cruel to someone else who was innocent. We say never again but as demonstrated by the Armenian genocide and by current events, history can and will repeat itself which is why it's so important to pass on the stories to the new generations to help prevent the repetition. Although the Armenian genocide in the holocaust have ended the stories of the survivors and the ones who perished should be continued to be retold with great importance.

  1. Maggie,
I agree with the holocaust seeming unreal. I like how you added that you have never experienced the true meaning of having hunger. Good job adding the part that the survivors and the people who perished's stories should be passed down. Nice job!

  2. I agree with part about severe hunger. You can't really say i am starving after reading and learning about the holocaust. Its unthinkable how starved the jews and minorities were. These stories and facts should be told to the next generations to prevent this from happening again. That was a very good post.
