Night Post #1

Tell about your experience as a reader of the book:  Explain how the book makes you feel.  Provide the specific passages that you found most moving/shocking/poignant/ surprising/interesting, and explain how they affected you (quote passages directly and include page number in parentheses after each quotation).   Describe what you noticed about how the author wrote.  Comment on the author’s diction (language choices), writing style, the cadence or rhythm of the language.

My experience so far in this book has been very interesting. It’s been a roller coaster ride of emotions and feelings some good, some bad. The book has made me feel extremely fortunate and thankful of who and where I am today. I say this because there have been some points in this book that have made me cry in sorrow and mourn. For example when they took the infants threw them up in the air and used them as target practice. This scene specifically brought tears to my eyes because they never had a chance to know or enjoy life and I don’t know how people can be so cruel like that and live with themselves. “Infants were tossed into the air and used as targets for machine guns”(6). Since Elie Wiesel had trauma as a kid growing up in this time I believe that affects his writing and style. He has a very concise and direct, short, cut and dry style because he wants to get his point across of what he was going through and the terrible experience he saw with his own eyes. He doesn’t want to elaborate. He wants to tell how horrible the experience was to him and others.

  1. Thomas,
I feel you have a really strong interesting blog post. I Agree entirely with your point on being grateful for what we have. When writing my post I thought the same thing. I also agree with your points on how hard it is to hear about people throwing babies into the air and shooting them. I thought your post was well done and I really could not find much I would change. Nice job!
