Bearing Witness to Sexual Assault

Nameless Shadow
By Mia Stewart

I will always remember that face
Those dark eyes with that twisted gaze
That is the reason why I stay inside
The reason why I’m petrified
They take advantage of people who trust
They are the reason why I curse, I must!
There is a reason behind my hate
It is because I’m a victim of rape

The reason why I eat like a bird
The reason why my head always hurts
The reason why I feel this depression
And yet I’m still afraid to give my confession

I am drowning in my anxiety
Now that I have lost my vitality
This is what came to be
After that nameless shadow raped me

If you are trying to help a victim of this circumstance
Comfort them, give their story a chance
If you have questions about what to do
Call the sexual assault hotline because they’ll help you
