Pain and suffering

blows rained down
they began to strike out left and right
whips and truncheons cracked around me
I hide from the blows behind others
hundreds of armed SS men rose out of the darkness
we were running
a spurt of red flame a shot
blows continued to rain down
the kapos beat us once more
within a few seconds we ceased to be men
hitting me in the chest on the head and throwing me down
he began to beat him with an iron bar
I was aware of nothing but the strokes of a whip
I had ceased to feel any pain from their blows

  1. Hi Chris,
I really liked your poem. I especially like the line: within a few seconds we ceased to be men. It was very powerful. Awesome job!
