Letter to the Next President of the U.S. About Police Brutality

7003 22nd Place
Hyattsville, Maryland 20783

October 27th, 2016

Next President
1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW,
Washington, DC 20500

Dear next President:

I have a massive concern about police brutality. Police brutality has been a big issue for years. There is a massive amount of blacks getting killed by policemen for no apparent reason. Blacks are most likely to get pulled over and or killed than whites. Police officers are not doing their job in the correct manner because they are using excessive and progressive force. The police are just overdoing it. Why do blacks have to deal with violence? More peace, less hatred!!

People today represent white police officers as being racist and bad people. People think white police officers are racist because they are killing blacks, especially black men. The killings seems so relentless from my perspective. Back in 2015 the maximum statistics of blacks being killed by police were about 585. So far right now in the year of 2016, the statistics have shown that about 234 blacks have been killed. The thing that really gets me is that the police have been shooting victims that were unarmed, and they still get killed. In the year of 2015, there were only 60 people unarmed. The well known names of blacks that were killed was Michael Brown, Freddie Gray, and Alton Sterling. Mainly the Freddie Gray killing made the most history back in 2015. The specific tragedy about Freddie Gray was so horrific because a massive amount of people were raging, burning buildings down, and some even were throwing bricks. The police were basically dragging Freddie Gray into a police car, and then the next day he died at the trauma center. The findings about Freddie Gray was that he had a spinal cord injury. When I heard about this appalling day, my heart instantly dropped. I was just so distraught. Just what a horrific day in Baltimore. I will never forget that day. But the other people that were killed in the year of 2014, 2015 and 2016 was Yvette Smith, Tamir Rice, Laquan Mcdonald, Akai Gurley, Eric Garner, Ezell Ford, Christian Taylor, Walter Scott, Natasha McKenna, Brendon Glenn, Samuel DuBose, Gregory Gunn, and Akiel Denkins.

Throughout the U.S., the Black Lives Matter movement had been very prominent. The movement started about 4 years ago in 2012. This powerful movement came about when there was a death of a black teenager who was Trayvon Martin. Trayvon was only 17 years old, and his whole entire life ended. Currently the Black Lives Movement is spreading and progressing throughout  our country.

Sincerely,

Dylan Donaldson
