The Jews of Sighet
Little town
I spent my childhood
Studying Talmud
In Temple
Ghettos created
Police struck old men
We waited for
Cars, we were placed in
We arrived in Auschwitz
Barbed wire fences
Crematories and gas chambers
Kapos beating us, no food
I became A-7713
I will never forget this
Dear Jacob
ReplyDeleteI really liked the way your poem flowed, I like how it was choppy but at the same time it was smooth. In all the last stanza really stuck out to me for me it showed how the Nazi's started to dehumanize the Jews by replacing their name with a number and I liked how you described Auschwitz in short but strong words. Overall I think you did a great job.
Jacob,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your found poem. I liked how your poem took place over along period of time and how you did not spend to much time in one place in the novel. My favorite part of your poem was the last two lines. When you said "I became A - 7713, I will never forget this" your words really struck me. It reminded me that no one who experienced the Holocaust could ever forget what they went through. Also when you wrote, "Barbed wire fences, Crematories and gas chambers" I liked how it brought a visual to my mind of what the camps looked like. Good job!
