NIGHT POST #2
This bool has changed from a group of hopeful survivors, to those who are close and scared to accept their impending death. The Jews are beginning to lose hope. Without the minimum food and drink needed to survive, their faith as well as their lives are slipping from their hands quickly. During the time that they were in the camps working day in and day out, people's thoughts that they may actually survive began to rise considering conditions were not as bad as they had first seemed. However, when performance evaluations came up, The Jews knew that there was no way that their minimal strength would carry them through the evaluation. Elie and his father survive the selection but this left me wondering what will become of them after the winter march. Elie who is injured seems to have less of a chance of surviving this incomprehensible situation. “It’s over. God is no longer with us.”(76) This shows the expected beginning of the end for Elie as well as the other members of the camp. The quote shows that there is little chance of survival and this is now quite apparent to the rest of the survivors. Ellie however is a fighter. He does what he can to live through this time of absolute peril. I believe that as the book continues Elie will use his sense to get him through this challenge, but something tells me that there may be a situation his loving father may have sacrifice himself for the safety of Elie.

  1. Ian,
I agree with much of what you said here. You used a lot of good vocabulary and made good use of it. I liked your analysis of the situation.

  2. Ian,
I loved the way you phrased your opening sentence it was really powerful. I liked your quote about the "beginning of the end". And, when I was reading I agree with you that I also thought that the dad might die in sacrifice for Ellie. You used a very impressive wide vocabulary. I think you did a great job!
