Blog Post #1

Reading the book Night makes me feel unhappy. Learning about how horribly they treated the people is very stressful. They treated the Jews as if they were animals, fed them very little, humiliated them, made them take off all their clothes, and made them dig trenches little did they known for their own graves. “Over there will be your grave...Don’t you understand anything ? You will be burned! Burned to cinder. Turned into ashes!” The Germans threatened the Jews and the Jews learned to lie about their age because if they were too young or too old they would be shot or burned in trenches. It was shocking to me that Elie Wiesel and his father after being in the camp for a couple weeks thought that they were not in a death camp they believed they were actually in a convalescent home. Elie Wiesel wrote in a way that makes you feel like you are in that moment and feel the pain of what is happening. He went into just the right amount of detail. His sentences are short but with just the right amount of detail.  The use of language is precise and the rhythm is a little choppy.

  1. Sophie,
I agree with all of your remarks about the novel, in fact I myself felt all of these emotions during the reading. Your pieces of evidence about what the Nazis did were really powerful. Maybe you can include a few more quotes about what the Nazis did that made you feel unhappy to really punch in your ideas? I also agree with what you said about Elie's writing style. I noticed that his writing made me feel as though I was in the moment with him, just as you said in your post. Good job!

  2. Hi Sophie,
I really enjoyed this post. I agree with a lot of the emotions you mentioned. I think you could have expanded the last thought a little. The quote is very power and a good choice. A few of the sentences I thought could have been split up or worded a little differently to make it more clear. Overall, really strong post!

  3. Hi Sophie,
Your Post first post was really strong and I enjoyed reading it. I agree totally with your points on Germans treating Jews like animals. Also I agree with the point about it being stressful to read. I thought you could maybe use stronger description and emotion words. Other than that great job!
