Forever in Our Minds
When learning about this topic in Global Studies you realize how easy your life is compared to others that struggle for their own survival. It is an uncomfortable topic to talk about, but it will never go away. It is a part of history and it will stay in our minds forever. “Syrian Government had offered the Armenian church a plot of land for a memorial,”(Bones by Peter Balakian). They celebrate those lives that never had a chance for a proper burial. Survivors have to live with the loss of their families and friends. No one can say that the holocaust never happened. Those people lived through it. Jewish survivors and even bystanders know what happened and there is so much evidence that proves it. “Killing an estimated 300,000 Armenians,” (The Prince of Wentworth Street by John Christie). The people that choose to ignore and brush off the fact that their nation is responsible for any genocide, are saying that it is okay for that to be happening. It is disrespectful to all members that the genocide affected.
Hearing both sides of the story being told about the genocides really put my opinion into perspective. The one side about Turkey’s national leader saying that the genocide to wipe out all Armenians is false makes you ask yourselves if that is who you would want as your leader. There are not many survivors left and to hear from their own story is really unsettling. You hear exactly what their reality was, but somehow it all seems surreal. I now know that great leaders can bring devastation. At any given moment the whole nation can turn against a single group of people based on characteristics.
Hi Ava,
ReplyDeleteI thought your last post was really good and powerful. I agreed with what you said. The transitions between each topic were rough. Great post!

Hello Ava,
ReplyDeleteThis last post a great wrap up to the unit. At the beginning you say how your realization of how life is so easy for us compared to their survival. This I think is a very powerful point and one that I agree with.
Great job
