Soup

Matter of life and death for some
A simple meal for others
Warm and refreshing
Yet sometimes cold and dreary
Happiness sometimes lies
In one spoonful
Yet hints of sadness sometimes lure
Peas and carrots
Both represent all the little things
That make up
Happiness and sadness
Wellness and sickness
And even
Life and Death
Yet all together
The soup together
Has a purpose for a person
No matter
If it saves you from a deadly cause
Or if it has barely any purpose at all

  1. Ian,
Great job! I love all the comparison your found poem has. Your vocabulary was extraordinary.I like your connection to peas and carrots and how they both represent small things. The only thing I was a bit confused on was you said they all represent small things. Is life or death a small thing? Overall, good job.

  2. Ian,
You did a very good job with this poem. It flows very nicely, and the imagery is perfect. I love how you used soup as a metaphor. Beautiful piece.

  3. Ian, great poem! I really enjoyed the style you put together. The idea of comparison, that every yin has it's yang, while far from original, is executed perfectly. The language you use has a certain ring to it that when put in stanzas sounds very nice. Again, great job, and keep it up!
