During global studies this year, we discovered that we had very easy lives compared to others. These others include the Jews and the Armenians(along with many others). They have tried to be eliminated throughout history. Both of these ethnic groups had a genocide sometime in the past 100 years. The holocaust being the larger of the two genocides. The holocaust was a mass murder of the Jews that started in 1933 by the Nazis. Over 11 million people were killed during the holocaust while 6 million of them were Jews. This is the largest genocide of any religion or ethnic group in all of history. The Armenian genocide was also very sad and gruesome. “Killing an estimated 300,000 Armenians during the reign of Sultan Abdul Hamid the second”.(The Prince of Wentworth Street. A book written by John Christie). It's very interesting to see both sides opinions on these terrible events. As Elie Wiesel said during his Nobel prize acceptance speech,” Wherever men and women are persecuted because of their race, religion, or political views, that place must-at that moment-become the center of the universe”.(134 IPAD) This proposal, this idea, could of changed much of history. It speaks out to all. We must act as soon as possible to any situation. Because it could lead to much worse. Some can deny these events and possibly many more but it will always be part of history. In school, we learned that these are very fragile subjects to some. We talk about these events very carefully. In doing so, we are learning that this is bad. A reason why we learn this is so history doesn't repeat itself. Another reason as a remembrance of those who died in these genocides. In addition to these reasons, we visited the holocaust museum to enforce them. It was a very realistic and graphic museum that provided more than enough information. While I don’t think I have changed as a person, my opinions have. We can only hope that nothing like this ever happens again throughout the future course of history.

ReplyDeleteYou have a very nice unique writing style. I agree with your quote about Elie's speech and like it a lot. Interesting point you made, saying you don't think you changed as a person but your opinions have. Great job!
