The Day of Liberation

A roof and four walls,
in an empty field,
all that was left.
In the mud,
the sun warmed us,
a summer sun.
Never shall I forget
the Mark of the Red Hand
upon me.
Huge flames,
help me enter enter eternity.
God is no longer with us.
Crawling snakelike in the direction of
freedom.
It was over.
All over.

  1. Ben,
I thought you did an excellent job on your found poem. I really enjoyed the part of your poem where you commented on the fact that almost everything had been destroyed by the SS. I liked that you showed that the Nazis destroyed all the Jewish people had and also they destroyed the lives of so many Jewish people. I also liked the piece you included about when the Army arrived to save the Jews. It made me think about how relieved the Jewish people must have felt when they were freed from the control of the Nazis by the Americans. All in all great job Ben!
