MB Night Blog Post #1

Night was a very realistic, and emotional book that follows the life of Elie Wiesel as a boy during the holocaust. I like how Night was “true”. What I mean is that some books leave out the graphic detail while this book shows every detail. “The three veteran prisoners, needles in hand, tattooed numbers on our left arms. I became A-7713. From then on, I had no other name”(pg. 60 IPAD). While this quote was sadly realistic, it showed what the Germans did to EVERY Jew that was in a concentration camp. Night showed many aspects on what the Jews had to do during the holocaust just to stay alive. The book makes me want to think and imagine on what the Jews had to go through. I would say it's a very “visual” book which makes every reader picture whats going on. Though it hasn’t happened yet, I feel like the book will (at least) make me shed a tear. While the author, Elie Wiesel, created this book with simple sentences and dialogue, they are very powerful to the reader. Throughout the book, he has used some very descriptive words but only when they are needed. I am excited to continue with the reading of Night and I look forward to what Elie Wiesel has to say about his experiences during the war.

  1. I like you descriptiveness with your connections of relating to the text. I can really see your emotions and thoughts while reading this novel. I like your quote you use to express your feeling in what the jews actually had to endure. I agree with your idea of it being a very visual book as it clearly has turned out to be. A very detailed, descriptive book that shows all aspects of a bunch of peoples stories all told through the main voice of Wiesel.
    Great Blog.

  2. Max,
Reading your blog post felt like it really put some things into perspective. Your outlook on some parts of the novel and the way you described it made it feel so much more real. I could just visualize the horrific actions taking place. I also liked how you described the writing style of the reader, One question, You said that Elie only uses descriptive words when they are really needed, do you think that was a wise decision or not?
    Excellent post,
